UC Announces Project You Can, a Major Student Aid Initiative Seeking to help keep the University of California accessible and affordable for California students, UC President Mark G. Yudof has announced an ambitious fundraising effort that aims to raise $1 billion for student support over the next four years. Yudof also announced that he would be asking the UC Regents in November to expand the reach of an ongoing financial aid plan to ensure that eligible undergraduate students with family incomes of $70,000 or less will pay no systemwide fees. The UC Budget: Myths and Facts As the University of California confronts the challenges brought about by the global economic crisis and the downturn in state funding, questions about the university’s budget are frequently raised. In response, the UC Office of the President has prepared a fact sheet that answers these frequently asked questions and addresses a number of myths about the funding of the university’s operations. Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan Under UC's new Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, students from families with income under $60,000 and who qualify for financial aid may be exempt from paying UC systemwide fees and also eligible for additional financial support. MORE INFO

Register Now for the UCSB Alert Emergency Notification System UCSB Alert is a new campus tool that will be used in the event of a campus emergency. It enables university officials to contact you during an emergency by sending text messages to your e-mail account, cell phone, or smartphone or other handheld device. UCSB's Long Range Development Plan   In 1990, the University updated its Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) to plan for our next 20 years. It is now time to review the existing LRDP and revise it to address the University's plans to the year 2025. The LRDP is a planning tool that will shape how the campus will change over the next two decades, including changes in our academic programs and the development of additional campus housing for students, faculty, and staff. New Self-Guided Campus Nature Tour Brochures Available   UCSB's diverse and botanically rich ornamental horticulture includes plants from six continents, some of them found nowhere else in Santa Barbara County. The Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration has now developed a self-guided Exotic Flora Walking Tour of the campus. The one-hour walk begins and ends at the Visitor Center. UCSB Embarks on Sustainability Program for Existing Buildings
UCSB has signed an agreement with the U.S. Green Building Council to use the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Existing Building rating system in 25 of its existing buildings over the next five years. LEED is the national benchmark for high performance green buildings. The LEED for Existing Building program will provide the university with a roadmap to lower energy use, incorporate sustainable purchasing and maintenance practices, and improve indoor environmental quality in existing buildings.

New Campus Emergency Preparedness Site UC Santa Barbara takes safety seriously, and takes a proactive approach to emergency planning. We all face these risks, and we all share responsibility for preparedness. Emergency preparedness is everyone¹s responsibility, and UCSB urges students, parents, faculty and staff to become familiar with the campus response procedures and plans already in place. Campus Copes With H1N1 'Swine' Flu The H1N1 pandemic has produced many low-level cases of the flu on campus, without any serious complications for students or staff, according to Dr. Elizabeth Downing, UCSB's campus physician and director of the Student Health Service. The health service has conducted a major public education campaign to advise the campus community on ways to cope with the flu and to try to avoid spreading it. The Campaign for UC Santa Barbara This is the first comprehensive campaign to raise private funds to ensure UCSB's excellence for future generations. The information is presented in a format similar to that used by many colleges and universities, making it easy to compare important characteristics of our educational program. The portrait also provides many live links to campus Web sites and serves as a gateway to deeper understanding of UC Santa Barbara.

Regulations Governing the Campus Conduct of Individuals Not Affiliated With the University The Regents of the University of California have adopted regulations addressing the conduct of persons who are not students, officers, or employees of the University of California when that conduct is a threat to persons or property or constitutes interference with functions or activities of the University. These regulations may not be utilized to impinge upon the lawful exercise of constitutionally protected rights of freedom of speech or assembly, or the constitutionally protected right of personal privacy.
